1st National Bookmobile Day Contest
Begins April 1st
The Monroe Township Library is sponsoring a bookmark design contest to celebrate the 1st National Bookmobile Day!
The winning bookmark design will be printed and distributed on National Bookmobile Day to Library patrons.
All students and adults are encouraged to enter as many times as they wish. The deadline for submissions is Saturday, April 10th, 2010.
The entry form is available on the Bookmobile, the Library’s website, www.monroetwplibrary.org, or from the Youth Services Department.

Kids for Kids Poetry and Photo Contest
Begins April 1st
Enter our annual Kids for Kids Photo and Poetry Contest! The 2010 theme is "food." Young people can enter a photograph of any type of food or a poem about any type of food.The Photography Contest is for children in grades K-8. Please include your name, grade and phone number on the back of your photograph.
The Poetry Contest is for young people in grades 3-8. Please include your name, grade and phone number on the back of your poem.

Monroe Township Egg Hunt

The Monroe Township Mother’s Club and the Monroe Township Recreation Department will hold their annual Egg Hunt and Bonnet/Top Hat Contest beginning at noon on March 27 at Dey Farm, off Federal Road, between Applegarth and Perrineville roads, Monroe. In case of rain, location will be the hockey rink at the Monroe Township Community Center, 120 Monmouth Road.

Participants will be divided into the following age divisions for the egg hunt: up to 4 years; kindergarten-second grade; third grade and up.

First- and second-place prize baskets will be awarded in each division for funniest hat, most original hat and best-looking hat. There will be one grand prize basket for best overall hat.

Easter Egg Hunt at the Reformed Church Home

An Easter Egg Hunt for youngsters ages 2-10 is set for March 27 on the lawns of the Reformed Church Home, 1990 Route 18 north, Old Bridge. Start time will be 10 a.m. for ages 2-5, 10:30 a.m. for ages 6-10. The community is invited to attend. The hunt will be canceled in case of rain.

The event will feature a large fire truck for children to explore, a giant Easter Bunny distributing candy, prizes, face-painting, a jellybean-counting contest and more. Participants should bring their own baskets to collect the eggs.

The event is sponsored by the Reformed Church Home and the South Old Bridge Volunteer Fire Company.

Workshop

The Home Depot's Kids Workshops offer useful projects including the creation of toolboxes, fire trucks and mail organizers, as well as more educational projects, such as a window birdhouse, bughouse or Declaration of Independence frame kit.

The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment. Additionally, this fun time allows for quality one-on-one time between adults and children.

In addition to the newly constructed project kit, each child receives a kid-sized orange apron, similar to The Home Depot associates' aprons, and an achievement pin.
